Post subject: Jinker (and the server) offline for a while

Jinker is ok, but he has no internet connection at the moment so the server is offline as well. I have no ETA at this time, but if I learn more I'll post it here.
Time to take care of all that stuff you put off to play Oberin, so when the server comes back you have lots of time to play.

I know it might be a delicate subject and it was brought up a couple of times but... is there anything we can do to help (if not right now, at least in the future)?
It might be a technical problem and not the usual evil internet bill, but if it's the latter, a friend suggested that making an account in http://flattr.com/ could be an idea... What would you (and Jinker) say? |

The subject of having a PayPal Donation button has been brought up before, or as Cassandra suggests, a flattr.com account could be an option, those who wish to help out can do so. no strings attached. |

I'd love to be able to help - are those T-shirts for sale yet?
When the server died in 2008 and needed to be replaced I believe donations were accepted until the new server was paid for. Naturally - as per Jinker's comment on this thread - Jinker didn't want to accept continuous donations that would amount to more than the cost of running the server, as that would change the nature of the relationship with the players.
As much as it's good for everyone to have a break from Oberin from time to time, perhaps we could have some annual or semi-annual event where Jinker would for a limited period of time accept donations that would cover the cost of running the server? I can't see how that would be conceptually different to the 2008 server donation. Donations could be capped at (say) $20.
Easter might be a good time, with all those eggs to find. Blue Moon Fest might be another possibility. |

I understand that it could change the "dynamics" of the player base for some people to give money and for others to not do so. My idea is that we have an anonymous paypal donation system. We don't talk about how much we gave or whether we gave at all. Lets face it just because someone might not have given doesn't mean they don't want to do so, they might be tight for money themselves or if its a newer player, they may not have the drive to give money to a community they do not know very well.
Personally Jinker never gave me a reason to mistrust him and any additional funds he may receive I'm sure he would use to upgrade the servers or put back into the community somehow, Jinker also needs money to live and i wouldn't mind if he needed to spend some of it on living costs.
Those are my thoughts about the matter anyways, our community is strong and who are we if we cant help out our friends when they are in need and I don't mean just giving the money, it also means not excluding the people who didn't and they would (I'm sure) have legitimate reasons for not doing so and shouldn't be pressured into feeling guilty about the matter.

I would love another chance to get an Oberin shirt or hat or something. I think a once-a-year merchandise thing would be awesome.
P.S.: If that happens please make sure the shirt and hat sizes go up pretty high  |

| I would be sure to buy some of the stuff. I didn't get any in '08 because I downloaded the CC and less than 24 hours later server wasn't working, but I would now. 4 years and you still have me and my insanity. I don't care if not many people know about Oberin, we'd probably surprise each other if we ran into each other on the street. |
