A note is sent to Commander Vaup and all the officers of the Marali Vanguard, copies are sent to Karm of the Andris Vanguard, Budic of the Lerilin Vanguard and Lady Cassandra of the Mirith Vanguard

Commander,

You will have heard of the tragic loss of life at Mirith and Lerilin by now. At last we can report some good tidings, of attacks on our hall and that of the Andris Vanguard that have been thwarted.

The chaplain and I were helping the valiant Budic contend with his loss in Lerilin. We knew an attack on Marali and Andris was likely, and we were preparing to scout the area. Then I saw a series of smoke puffs on the northern horizon that could only have come from the fireballs of an enraged wizard. It is a good job Lady Cassandra still remembers the old Maralian smoke signal code. B.R.. - I did not wait for the rest, but grabbed a pure purple crystal and a *pur* purple cleric and sprinted to the portal.

We were in the nick of time. A small army of brigands was marching up the road towards our hall. Laricen and Cassandra were already scorching and stabbing the startled brigands who clearly had not expected resistance. Borti and I are also grateful to Aerowyn, Alexia, Anniqa, Armatus, Budic, Danery, Gilante, Gorden III, Gwyddeon, Kevin, Rosina, Sam and Serancha, who helpfully provided a sketch. We swiftly slew our foes, and knowing that there would likely be an attempt to attack all the Vanguards, we turned our attention to Andris.

Duties in Marali meant I arrived to the tragic scene of three of our trusted allies dead after they discovered a brigand camp near the Andris Vanguard hall. Others may be able to provide you with a fuller account, but suffice it to say we prevailed once more.

"Maybe the brigands feel our Vanguards are becoming weak" Said Budic, still mourning the Lerilin guardsmen. "The Vanguards have been weak for a long time" said Laricen, with all his usual tact. "No longer" was my terse reply.

Some dark power - I have no doubt allied to, or part of, the Black Hand - intends to intimidate all those brave souls sworn to defend the lands. They will rue their folly, for united we shall crush the Black Hand with an Iron Fist.

I am ever at your service,

Armsman Octar

(OOC sorry if I missed anybody. I have loot for all who want it, AIM or PM me.)

Greetings, Octar,

Here is the picture from the LV memorial you requested.

I fervently hope this will be the last rite we perform.
