Day 99, Bleeding Moon.
From Borti II to Captain Fang of the Marali Vanguard, Greetings.
It was a quiet evening in Andris. Fuoco and I were just catching up on the news since my escape from the blocked caverns. Suddenly a young boy ran up to us, named Kristof, to warn us. He was sweaty and breathless with the news that he had spotted trolls and giant quite near the gates.
Fuoco gathered details from him while I dispatched runners to Mirith, Lerilin and Marali with the news. While I was occupied the boy disappeared. Fuoco and I went through our reagents and store of goods whilst we waited.
It seemed like no more than ten minutes before the defenders of Oberin began to assemble. Crom, Octar, Angelica, Barabus, Gohob, Gwyddeon, Kookai, Cassandra, Buck, Foxeron, Patarius, Neblin, Gina, Zena Siradar and Karm all answered the call to arms.
With Barabus studying the trail markings and broken leaves and branches, we went swiftly toward a walled fortress. Odd, I have been down this road several times and never saw this here before.
The details of this battle are straight-forward. We were funneled inward toward a tight chokepoint. From that narrow gap were were at the mercy of waves of trolls and giants, whilst being attacked by brackens farther back.
We were a bit disorderly. We should have stayed out and allowed the tanks to pull the giants and trolls out, instead of suffering the bottleneck that killed our brave rogue. I think the enthusiasm of the newer defenders kept that spot bottlenecked.
At one point several waves of brigands attacked from behind. Several of us died at this point. (And yes, I died twice.) It took a bit before our plated members realized the softer squishy rows of casters and healers were dying.
In the end we overwhelmed the final remnants of the foul defenders. That foul den is cleansed. Attached are some images that I found rather striking, and I hope I captured people's likeness.
I hope to see you soon and wish you joy on your birthday,
Borti II

Dear friend,
Borti II filed a report about some events that took place a couple of days ago here in Andris. The citizens who rushed to the red city fought the Alliance forces with great valour. It was a hard battle and often there was nowhere to run to - I thank Elara for preserving my life as I suffered heavy blows from Forest Trolls, Giants and Hill Giants, blows that had killed younger citizens and clerics. Fellow wizard Cassandra and I did not spare dragon teeth and discharged all our powers against the vile attackers with hardly any time to stop and catch our breath - I made my niece work hard upon our return to town... never drank so many potions in my life! And what an unexpected turn of events from an amused conversation in town with a boy who was dressed up as a brigand!
(Kristof): Yarrr!
(Kristof): Die trolls!
(Fuoco): uh oh
(Fuoco): a would-be brigand!
(Borti II): lol
(Kristof): Hello! * smiles *
(Fuoco): greetings young man!
(Borti II): *cowers in fear*
(Fuoco): welcome to the red city
(Kristof): I'm fighting trolls and giants!
(Fuoco): * coughs *
(Fuoco): here in Andris?
(Kristof): Yes!
(Fuoco): trolls?
(Fuoco): How dare they!
(Kristof): Just like the ones I saw outside the gate to the East!
(Kristof): Big walls around them too!
(Fuoco): East gate?
(Fuoco): trouble?
(Fuoco): hmm
(Kristof): Yes! My father tells me not to go too far, but they were all pretty close!
(Fuoco): ah
(Fuoco): you are the son of one of the guards!
(Kristof): I am!
(Fuoco): I do remember now
(Fuoco): I met you once before!
(Fuoco): well
(Kristof): My father fights them all the time!
(Fuoco): then it is a case of raising the alarm here
(Fuoco): you came with us to Crescent Island once!
(Kristof): Yes yes I did!
(Fuoco): good heavens!
And indeed, Clirseit, I then recalled my previous meeting with Kristof - it was under the Blue Moon of the year 433 - he had "borrowed" his dad's black armour to play with, but was robbed by Brigands and feared his father's anger, so we volunteered to help and it ended up in a big fight on Crescent Island, which had been invaded by Rust Beasts and Brigands led by a Thug!
Well, I guess it must be hard for a guard on duty to keep such a lively son under control at all times!
I am glad to report Andris has been restored to order, but the note found in the fortification built by the Alliance still troubles me - The island is running at full capacity, be prepared for large shipments- it read.
Needless to say, I shall keep a watchful eye.
With sincere regards,
Fuoco

a note is sent to Fuoco. It smells a bit fishy, with Octar's neat precise handwriting visible on Nial's patented troutskin parchment
Lady Fuoco,
Nial and I checked hollow tree island, and found nothing more troubling than trout. We also quizzed the harbor master in Marali, but he seemed to know nothing of any unusual goings on. When the full bleeding moon has passed, perhaps we should organise a scouting party to the 'dojo' to see if the privateers know anything? Perhaps they are implicated.
Yours,
Armsman Octar |

Dear friend,
I was indeed thinking of such a journey and, in fact, I communicated my intentions to Isen of Andris when I met him last in Lerilin. Now more than ever, given the recent occurrences, it is time to set forth and try and find some answers.
The ransacking of the Mirtih Vanguard Hall was a blow too many - the audacity of our adversaries is a serious problem for all of us - we shall put together the necessary forces very soon.
Yours,
Fuoco |

Dear Kinswoman,
It is worse than you knew. After you retired, the brigands and mercenaries that attacked and savaged the MV guild hall returned. They left a horrifically mocking note that enraged every single person present. We cleared them out but there were a lot of deaths. (Yes, I died a lot.)
We were able to remove the guards from their horrid spikes, and properly bury them with all honor. At the Mirith bank, everyone present drank a toast to their valiant memories.
I have decided to stay a few days in Mirith. There are rites my order observes to honor the fallen. I don't know the families, but prayers can never hurt.
I hope to speak with you soon,
Borti II |
