Thanks for the brilliant how - to, working like a charm. I am running sheepshaver / OS9 on a Win 7 laptop.

One issue I have run into is with the mapping of the options key to the windows key. Use of the options key causes the start menu to pop up and interrupt play.

I have tried modifying the keycodes file to map options to the right control and pointed the sheepshavergui at it but no changes I make to the file seem to have any effect.

has anyone had any luck changing these mappings or getting a right click to option click?

Cheers,

Well, you can keey trying to do that, or if you dont use the menu key, then you could try to disable it: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=216893 (Scroll down to "Fix it myself")

Or, the way i have been doing it, is to press alt after i have finished with that key, release the windows key, then release alt. It only takes a little to get right, then it just comes natrual to do it.

Thanks for the reply,

Found the alt method by accident, though it seems the times I forget to do it are generally when I can least afford to have Oberin disappear into the background.

I did try disabling the windows key before I tried re-mapping, unfortunately it did just that... Disabled the key completely, didn't work as the windows key OR as the option key.

I will persevere, every now and then it'll bug me enough to try find a fix but it is with the alt method very playable.

Cheers,

Thank you so much for posting up these instructions! I've almost got it working!!!

I'm just having trouble getting sheepshaver to recognize my internet connection. I did change the setting to basilisk II slirp, but no change.

Any advice you have for me in this would be greatly appreciated.

Sheepshaver works like charm under Win7 64bit. Much better than it did for me when I tried it under Lion. It¥s fully playable, everything including sounds and music works fine.

Just one thing... Targeting key is "windows key". So when I target any creature, it opens Windows menu, which is not a killer but it¥s slightly annoying.

Any fix? It would be best to replace this with right click but I know that might be not possible. Laughing

Hey,

Try this: http://ask-leo.com/how_can_i_disable_my_windows_key_or_for_that_matter_remap_my_entire_keyboard.html

It's how to disable the windows key.

The reason SS works so much better on windows than on mac is that it uses SDL.

SDL on mac still relies on carbon technologies, means that running SS on a 10.8 mac can be potentially harmful for the system.

I have tried turning Windows key off but obviously it stopped working under Sheepshaver also.

Hmmm. Need to figure this out. Very Happy

Is there a way to remap keys under Sheepshaver?

EDIT: ah yes, easy enough I see.... toying with text edit and config file :O

And targeting moved to num 0. Quite convenient.

Now if I can remap F keys to lets say page down, page up etc., so it¥s all close to num keys..... Very Happy

Good to see a fellow Druid making a return Wink

The remapping isnt a hard thing to do at all once your in the files, just make sure you change them in all of the different keyboard lists.... by the sounds you have it sorted anyway Smile

Not sure if it will be much help, but here it goes (tested only under Windows):

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/544008/keycodes

(right click and save as, then on your computer move it to Sheepshaver folder - backup your old keycodes file first!)

Basically on numeric keyboard:

0 is targeting
5 is F1
Del (.) is F2
- (minus) F3
+ (plus) is F4

F keys still work as well.

In my case as a druid:

5 is mediation
Del is applying bandages
- is heel command
+ is attack command

I have tried to remap all F keys but I have found out I want to keep * and / on numeric keyboard intact (national keyboard script specifics). I have found out I¥m unable to remap F keys to "page up, page down, home, end" and "arrows".

So in the end its just F1 to F4 remaped (and targeting!!) to be as close to your control keys as possible, which for me works awesomely. And F5 to F9 are still closer to numeric keyboard than F1 to F4 right? Smile

____

Last but not least I would like to thank you guys for this improved Sheepshaver version of OS 9 / Oberin. It even comes with my national keyboard script (big drag before!)!

Well done!

I just want right-click for targeting then everything'll be less troublesome Razz

Disabling the windows key disables the whole window explorer function thing, which I don't want to do.

so I tried all of this on my windows 7 laptop and everytime I want to start up "OberinOld" (it doesn't let me open the "Oberin" file), it tells me it needs to be updated. sooo I did go through all of the enabling computer access etc. but 1) only the graphics files show up and 2) it tells me, you cannot copy "..." onto the folder "Oberin Graphics", because you do not have the privilege to make changes."

now I'm pretty sure that can't be hard to solve but I suck at finding out stuff soooo yes. help Very Happy

Sooo... I got everything seemingly running up until actually logging into Oberin. I'm a little bit computer naive... having trouble setting up the internet connection sheep saver I guess.
