What about the tamer, more socially accepted variants, such as 'freaking' and 'frakking?' Either way, it's still slang for fornicate,
I won't comment on the latter, but the former actually has quite a different meaning; it refers to anything "odd", and then there's the term "freaking out".

The words 'cock' and 'ass' are perfectly innocuous when used in the proper context, such as describing livestock.
But both have synonyms without (or at least with less) profane connotations: rooster, cockerel, donkey.

'Poof' is one that still confounds me. Many players here use it to describe when a corpse vanishes, however, where I come from, 'poof' is short for 'poofter/poofta' and is slang for one who is homosexual.
"Poof" is actually an onomatopoeia, or sound effect, and is typically used with that meaning. I have never encountered the other meaning before.

What about acronyms? LMAO/LMFAO, FFS, WTF, GTFO, etc. Also, GD, i.e. when one invokes a deity to modify/add weight to the word 'damn.'
What about acronyms? You mean the implied profanity in them? I feel that's not as bad as actually spelling it out, somehow. Not sure why.

Also, combat language. I've seen players complain about the harshness of words/orders spoken by others in combat situations. As a person who did a total of nine years of military service between active and reserve components, I can say from first-hand experience that in combat, it's pretty rare to hear, "Excuse me kind sir/madam, would you terribly mind moving to the side such that I may enter combat uninhibited?"
And I would never say something like that in combat, Oberin or otherwise (though hopefully not real ). I'll go for one or two words at a time. That's not harsh, really. Just practical. Unless those words happened to contain profanity (which is kinda silly because then you've wasted a word), I'd probably ignore people's complaints.

Which dialect of English am I supposed to speak when playing, and which dialects 'swear words' are unacceptable? A list of things I'm NOT allowed to say would be far better than finding out the hard way.
Honestly, if you keep away from the big four, and try to cut back on others that you know to be profane, I expect you'll avoid jail. |

I have to say, I agree with Jinker on this one. I think most of us may slip up here and there, but for the most part, Oberin is one of the the cleanest RPGs out there(And should stay that way). Jinker also has a point, we all enjoy this game for FREE. Its like when you live with your parents as a kid, rent free, you can't go around making the rules. Fair suggestion though.

Simply put, if you think you are going to get jailed for using the word, don't use it. If you are new to the game, you'll get warned, then jailed. Veterans, jailed on site, they know better. If you want to push the envelope and see what is jailable, by all means please do. *laughs evilly*
