Gawr, maybe you should read my suggestion properly. I said a single place away from the busy areas. That basically means one area, and that will not clutter the lands. Maybe on an island or something.

Yes I know but the issue was to do with space I think. There was once suggestion that the houses be underground. Anyway the upshot was that it seemed unworkable. Take a look if you get the chance.

Yes, houses have been discussed many times before but have never made it to Oberin reality. Looking back over the list of ideas Ariki kindly compiled from other people's suggestions though, I'm really glad to know Cymru's idea of a lion is now in Oberin. I am still re-reading the thread to see what else has been added.

Houses are long time dead idea for several reasons - messing map (wilds), underground is not possible (no map space and we would rather have few dungeons than 100 player houses...), GM don't want to pick up rent ^^.

Would it be doable in okayish way? Yup. For me adding few small houses to cities (2-4 small houses per city) and auctioning them to players would be nice. You would get a small house with one chest in a city. Map would not be trashed by houses everywhere. It would be a way for rich people to spent gold on (having a house would be a rank by itself). And you could be forced to pay yearly rent or house would be auctioned to another player (in hundreds of thousands per Oberin year) - that way it would not be fixed to non-active player.

______

Houses are generally good idea, but you should accept they would not be for everyone in Oberin conditions. Which is good btw. There are not many rare things to aim for (most, like silver leafs or rings totally lost their charm :'( ). I know non at the moment except for mana ring or immunity ring ^^. But there could be a house to aim for. And also this limited amount would not eat up map and would make sense (I always thought guild halls in wilds should have guards killed sometimes (and you would have to buy new ones for more money (whom would go there after several guard wipes @.@)) and creatures should plunder the chests .

______

I still own an estate in Andris, like it or not. I'm just not allowing any visitors in. Cool

I couldn't be bothered reading Davon's post, but still I think... Er... That's not true, but gotta love first lines like these. (Hmmpf.)

Anyway, I actually don't like the 2-4 houses for the richer system. It's so ... real life. Unless you can rp class struggle to (for which you would finally have to abandon the silly rank system, or you'd have several homeless Lords... tempting).

Our characters don't need to sleep, and with potions they cannot even tell night from day. Oberin days last very short, and often people talk about "tomorrow" and that will be a week later. Are there even weeks? This all to say that a house, serving for rp only, would fit weirdly in the word as it is right now. If it's for room... then it would be better to rent the chests at the bank.

Once a player asked a GM whether there are more people in towns than those we see, wanting to make a picture of the streets and houses much more lively than it is. The GM replied something about preferring to play with what he could see. I quite like that as a rule of thumb. What can we see, when it comes to housing? We can see guild halls (with beds, even), the Inn, and a few rooms in each city for the authorities and guests. I have nothing against it that way. We can use GHs as our home, sleep at the Inn when we travel or are guild-free, sleep in the woods, the stable, whatever fits one's fancy, with no real need for five tiles of private property.

But that's me.

Everyone to his liking. I met pretty good RP beggar in WoW yesterday, I gave him 2 gold coins. He thanked me so nicely on behalf of his non-existing kids that it warmed my heart.

I prefer to have an estate still. If I lose my gold by any accident, I will change my role play accordingly. Of course I do not need houses implemented. Like the beggar didn't need his children. Role playing by itself is the reward. I just wrote what "could work" and would "have sense" and would "give people goal". Are houses needed? Nope. Will it be added? Hehe, don't think so.
