Day 191 of the Sleeping moon, year 437
Captain Quin:
Enclosed is a more detailed written account of recent affairs in Mirith.
I found Dharma in Mirith, she and her small party found a brigand mage near Captain Jassen's old fortress. According to her, the mage threatened that "Mirith shall fall, then we shall march on Marali."
Soon enough, a Mirith Scout approached the bank steps and informed about an escaped mage. After reporting the sighting to the scout, the mage himself appeared, taunting the Mirithian officials. After a brief chase to the castle, I suggested that the library be guarded, given a mages typical thirst for knowledge. This mage was more interested with meeting the King, however. Frustrated by the vacancy on the throne, he disappeared with the words of black magic.
With this mage's second escape from Mirith, the scout asked me to report to the authorities in Marali, though I did not expect to find anyone to accept a report. As the other adventurers mulled about where to search, I departed immediately. Along the way I checked the Dragon's Mouth, where the others caught up to me. From there we checked Jassen's fortress, where the mage had been first spotted. Fortunately the Mirith group was able to assist me out of an embarrassing situation there involving a few brigands and gapers. Once the buried fortress was cleared out, the others headed toward Duldrus to continue their search while I made my way to Marali to deliver my report.
While this mage is making serious threats, I do not yet consider them to be credible. Such mages are usually little more than arrogant troublemakers, thinking themselves much more capable than they are. While his knowledge of black magic is disturbing, he has yet to distinguish himself as being able to use it to its full extent.
