Year 437 Sleeping Moon, Day 26
Andris City
As I roll the bandages I have sewn and keep them tightly in a clean box, a figure I have not seen for a long time greets me.
"Oh, hello. Nice to see you around again."
I turn around and squint a bit under the bright light of the morning, there he is smiling at me. I almost do not recognize him. Senator Muqities.
"How have you been?"
He does not notice my surprise and I politely answer, "I am doing fine, thank you. How about you?"
"Oh, very busy in my advancing years. I should retire soon."
"Work taking its toll?"
"Age and infirmity."
He does not look old. In fact, I do not even think of him retiring soon. His frailty is not obvious until he leans on a wooden stave, perhaps trying to catch his breath after taking a stroll around the city. Perhaps he frequently takes long walks to help him in staying young. I do hope he is not suffering a major physical ailment.
"It is good to see you taking a walk in the park in this fine day, Senator."
"You are most kind. I am closeted with my thoughts," he says. "Sometimes, a wander does me good," he adds.
"Indeed. Helps to clear the mind."
A guard near the bank passes by and gives the Senator a proper greeting, "Hail Senator!"
"And hail to you too, brave guardsman," Senator Muqities greets back. I give a warm smile to the guard as he goes back to his patrolling duty.
The Senator prepares for his stroll again and bids me, "Farewell, Amor. Give my best regards to Adora when you see her."
"I sure will. Thank you. Farewell, Senator."
He smiles and turns around down the path towards The Gourmet's.
The Gourmet's. I will meet my sister there for dinner later. I hope there will be a good meal other than her Mandrake cookies. Oh, Fuoco! You have made her a baking addict! Dear Elara. Please, let there be an apple pie and a cold champagne for tonight. |
