Guano is a very fun and addicting gambling game accidentally started by bank tarts. The reason for its name will be made clear below
This following section you can skip over, but Iíve bolded the prizes won. It may read a bit like a story, sorry about that. The rules and important things are at the bottom.
THE NIGHTíS EVENTS:
We were auctioning some items, and during the events people were throwing things underneath a bat who was watching the whole thing, Mr. Black. After a gold ring had been sold, someone suggested that they auction the so-called ëMystery Boxí.
The bidding stayed low initially, and people said that they had thrown rare items in the box, and we thought they were joking. The price drove up to 11K, seemingly crazy for what was probably junk. As the price raised I threw in a Purple Egg and a bunch of Nourish potions. The people present were Dracilus, Leiland, Elwood, myself, Sher, Gilden, Doshaburi, Razan, Hania, Hacton, and Jael. Razan won with 11K. The items turned out to be a Stave of Power +6, 123 Nourish Potions, 5 Dragon Teeth, a fresh Black RoP, and Dracilusí LPR +8 which he had accidentally given to the bat.
With people now having some trust in the game, we decided to do it again but this time we defined the rules. It was decided that everyone has to place at least 1 item on the bat, even if its basically worthless. As for the money from the actual bidding, it was suggested that, after the bidding was completed, all the players would roll a 1d100. The highest roll would win the gold, while the highest bidder would win the loot, or the guano/bat droppings. To make sure that there was no cheating in the dice rolls, people would go one at a time and people would listen for the dice sound.
The second mystery bag auction commenced. Within a minute, the price was almost 50K. People were getting confident. By now Galena had shown up. She won the guano with 53K. As Gilden put it, ìshe paid 53 k for a bag of rat tails and a shoeî. To build suspense, before she could collect her items we did the dice roll. I won with a 97 and got the 53K. Galena ended up winning 1 Amber Axe, 1 CoP, 120 Inv pots, 1 silver katana, 168 black ingots, 1 flaming sword, a short bow of power, a ring of brute strength, and countless other common items. After this auction people realized that it was serious, and a third auction begun.
In a flash the bidding popped up to 50K. It slowly advanced, until Razan drove it up to 100. People put more rare items in and the bid kept advancing and even a second bat had to be brought in as the first one became too full. Razan again drove the price to 150, and then finally 200, the winning bid. As someone noted, we were going batty Hacton won the dice roll, taking home 200K.
In the bag itself, Razan won 1000 Leather Hides, 5 Ivory Tusks, 25 Dragon Teeth, 44 Scorpion Stingers, 2 almost broken MPRs, a Small Moon Fragment, some Privateer and Brigand heads, 290 logs, glaive of power, magic stone, 3 sunstone rings, 50 snake eggs, Ring of Remove Curse, RoLB, 64 Full Detox Pots, 50 Snake Eggs, 100 Bracken Roots, 100 Ferrite, and many other worthwhile items.
Many others had heard of the game and came to Mirith, and Iím sorry I canít remember them all. A fourth game started. The price rose by ten thousands until it peaked at 175K to Jastherin. In the suspenseful dice roll, both Dracilus and Jastherin rolled 89. They both rerolled, Dracilus rolled first to get 16, but then Jastherin rolled and got a 15. Dracilus received the 175K. The bag that Jastherin won included: 600 skulls, a fresh MPR, Black RoP, 2 Centaur Mining Axes, Tarnished Necklace, War Hammer of Speed, 5000 ambers, 500 Blacksmith Hammers, GM Long Bow, near 300 GHP.
The fifth, and what would the final, bag game occurred. I took the role of price driver this time. The bid started low, I drove to 50, then 100, then 150, then 200. By then it was just Hania and I, slowly upping the price. Around here I crashed and the bidding paused for a few minutes, and when I returned it seemed to have stopped at 235. I drove it up once more to 300, in an effort to win it in one sweep. But Hania continued to bid. It slowly rose to 400, paused at 425, and then I went to 450, which I considered my stopping point. Hania bid 460, and as he was about to win I changed my mind and drove it to 500K, much to the awe of the crowd. It was the winning bet.
The dice roll was next, and I was one of the first ones to roll. Right off the bat I got a 99, eventually the winning roll. After the dice roll finished, Galena rolled a 98! So I won my 500K back, and got two free bags. The first is the screenshot down below, with the 400+ Dragon Teeth being a highlight. The second bag contained 25000 Mugs of Ale (courtesy of Yahyad), 2 DHAs, a Magic Stone, a couple RoPs, and other various items. The hardest part was getting it back to the bank
RULES:
ï Everyone has to drop at least one item on the bat.
ï The animal must be a Bat, otherwise it wouldnít be Bat Droppings, or Guano. No other pets can be used for the game.
ï No one can peek at the items until all the bidding and dice roll is complete.
ï Once the items have been given to the bat, bidding is first. An auctioneer controls the bidding. For items that cannot be given to a bat (Gold, food, etc.), the auctioneer will hold until the dice roll is over.
ï After someone wins the auction, the dice roll occurs before the winner of the auction collects their prizes.
ï For the dice roll, everyone must line up, and roll a 1d100 one at a time. Players should be listening for the sound of the dice roll to make sure that they arenít cheating. Whoever rolls the highest wins all the gold won in the auction.
ï Once the dice roll is completed, the winner of the auction can collect their guano.
All in all, it was a very fun and suspenseful event. Iím sure all the players loved it, and a large Guano game will be held at the next Lerilin festival. This is definitely something Iíll be looking forward to. I just want to thank everyone who was there, everyone who added something to the bat, and everyone that bid in the auction. The game wouldnít have gone so far if it werenít for the trust we all had in the items and each other. |

I'd like to point out, that Oberin is likely the only game this could ever be possible on. The way the game spontaneously rose up from absolutely nowhere in to a thriving game full of life is a tribute to all we work towards in Oberin. The trust we put in each other, and the spirit we put in to the game really shows, and quite often through the middle of the games I was left awestruck at the way things were turning out. Oberin is an amazing game, and deserves to stay that way.
Good work, guys! I'm definitely putting down Guano (which, by the way, translates in to "Bat droppings", therefore a bat MUST be used for the game, as Jedd pointed out) on the list for the leri fest games, and I can't wait to see how it turns out next time! |

SO glad I went for the 53 k that first time instead of later trying to compete with 200k and 500k bids Super fun game!! Jedd you are the luckiest guy I've ever met! Remind me never to bet against you on anything. How did you have room for all that!!?!?!
And yea Lou I agree, future auctions should occasionally set up so everyone can play, so it doesn't just end up being a game exclusively for the richy riches. I got lucky in bidding high when nobody really cared what was in the bag, but afterwards I got knocked out pretty bad and fast, along with 80% of those playing. Otherwise it really is pretty ingenious and I'm glad I was there!! |

Expect Guano happening at the Lerilin festival sometime later this month.
And yes I agree that this game shouldn't be just for the 'rich'. (Am I rich now? o_O) Although I'm not sure how to fix that. Don't bet high?
And Galena I only hoard useful items...if they aren't useful I can sell them or give them away |

I hoard non-useful items if they are rare...
In any case, maybe hold seperate auctions. One for older, richer players, and one for newer players? |

Oh, I love that game you've just established yesterday. I meant, the part of dice-roll doesn't choose participants based on whether being able to afford to bid or not. To quickly describe, high-bidding could bring a dream to younger players. That's one of the exciting points of this game, I think. |

Ahh that's true Lou lou I do think it would be something to inspire youngins like myself to work hard and make money! Higher bids do make the game waaay more interesting and tense
And Jedd, if you have half a mil to blow on a bag of bat dropping... I'd say you're likely a bit richer than most! Hehe |
