Ok, I promise this is my final moan on this subject. Having spent days (weeks? years?) trying to level healing, I have now applied, by conservative estimates, 5k over the number I should need. Perhaps as many as 15k. I am waiting for the "you have applied the bandages" message before clicking again, and even allowing for a few clicks being too fast to register, things aren't right. I know no one has any sympathy because Healing is an easy cleric prime, but man, it is dull - to the point of insanity, and it would therefore be nice if it didn't take so many more bandages than it is meant to!

In the land of Oberin there are vast pits, ruled over by trolls and infested by rats. Rotting corpses of dead harpies are found in every nook and cranny. The smell is so bad that it turns the hair of everyone in Gast grey.

This pit is only known as the bandage pit.

You see long ago it became apparent to the Royal Court that there were to many bandages from young clerics littering the streets. They could not however, forbid the clerics from using bandages as no one wants to mess with Shogun.

So the King decreed that all bandages should be dropped in The Great Pit of Oberin, a place so vast that it was conceived that the pit would never be filled.

However time passed and clerics came and went. eventually the pit rose and rose and rose...

Nowadays there is scarcely ten metres left. Every day hundreds of Blink hounds are drawn to the Pit by the smell of blood on the soiled bandages. The Blink Hounds attempt to eat the bandages and soon choke to death.

Unfortunately the blink hound has now become an endangered species because of the bandages. Those that survive become maddened and have been known to attack travelers. This once peaceful creature is now becoming more and more aggressive, encouraging them to be hunted down. This is causing further slumps in blink hound population.

Please save the blink hound. Stop using Bandages.

Thankyou.

-Blinkhound Charity Fund of Oberin

Thanks. Finally levelled healing. Used between 8 and 18k more bandages than is meant to be necessary. I do think some explanation is in order. Others have had the same experience.

Also, a higher level of healing does not reflect how fast health regens at all and i have witnessed a rogue without bandages regenerating several times faster then a cleric using healing.

Ah well I levelled now so forget it Very Happy
It makes no sense though.
And i think the healing rate thing may be- as Kitiana said - to do with targetting a monster still, which slows down your healing rate, for no reason i can see. Useful, though, for levelling healing Wink

After several experiments and the loss of much hair, I can confirm that there is definitely a margin-of-error in levelling. Actually, since it seems to be intentional, I should not call it an error at all. Let's just say that levelling seems to require 25% upwards more successes per level than you might think.

By setting automator to combine log files and using textedit's find/replace to count successes for skills that give a specific message per success, I can confirm that the 25% extra mentioned by Anton was required for leveling of both stealth and anatomy from 9-10. Both required 16,000 successes instead of 12,800 and I am quite sure I did not die 128 times in November......

is that even here in Oberin, feel the effects of inflation? A question that is flying in the air.
