The Gapers Must Die.
published on 22.03.2011, 13:08:02. Category: Pets, Hunting, Druid.

I, the Distinguished Carradee, do promise with all the gravity inherent in my new status as a Dragon Rider, that many gapers will die for the death of Carlie, her level 10 giant spider and faithful companion for well over a decade in Oberin-years.

Magic is bad for spiders. I know this. Any druid with a modicum of sense and experience with spiders knows this. So, while I as a new member of the Dragon Riders guild have hung out in the guild hall in Marali, I've had my level 9 blink hound Shada with me, the good girl, may she rest in peace. (We'll address what happened to her in a moment.)

So, when I was traveling from Lerilin to Mirith while the Blue Moon waned, I took Carlie with me, to give her an opportunity to stretch her legs and maybe catch a troll or two. The bridge was in view on my compass when the gaper struck.

I was paralyzed, trapped and useless. Then disoriented. Carlie was half dead before I could do anything. Disoriented again. AEs joined the gaper to attack me, as did a zombie.

I failed to save my beloved Carlie. icon_frown

My intended vengeance against Carlie's killer didn't exactly turn out as planned, either. Cleric Daedra and wizard Lynlyss rescued my ghost and body.

I considered getting another giant spider to replace her, but I decided that I had better focus on getting a sand, frost, or lava spider, since I have reached level 8 taming. I did so want to see Carlie reach level 12Ö but it was not to be.

As if that weren't enough grief, a few short days later, I was with Katiya at our guild hall. A forest draco attacked. We fled up to the guild hall for the guards help, because we knew that 2 bites would kill Shada. (Or me. But I might survive until a 3rd bite.)

The drake, I saw, would be dead in seconds. I told Shada to attack it, seeing that the draco probably wouldn't target her with all those guards nearby, and if the draco did, I could cast "summon pet" and get those nice guards between us and my pet.

The forest draco targeted Shada only moments from death. I immediately cast "summon pet"ó

It fizzled.

Fizzled!

My Shada and the accursed forest draco died in the same instant.

For someone who the Foreteller told was only 15% to level 9 magery, at this past Blue Moon Festival, I've been getting a mighty lot of fizzling, lately.
